Getty Images for Huffington Post Key Facts The couple broke up partly because of work, Musk said, telling the tabloid his roles at SpaceX and Tesla require him to be in Texas or abroad most of the time, while Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has her music career based in Los Angeles. 

Musk said that the two are still on “great terms” and are working together to raise their year-old son X Æ A-Xii Musk, who Musk referred to as “Baby X” to Page Six.

Despite ending their relationship, the two “still love each other,” Musk said, adding that Grimes and their son were staying at his house during the time of the Page Six interview.

Tangent Musk and Grimes first made their relationship public in May 2018, when they attended the Met Gala together after reportedly meeting on Twitter after sharing a joke about artificial intelligence. Musk planned to tweet a pun involving Rococo and a thought experiment called Roko’s basilisk, but Grimes had beaten him to the punch years before, creating a character called “Rococo Basilisk” for a 2015 music video. 

Big Number $196.5 billion. That’s how much Musk is worth, according to a Forbes estimate, making him the second-wealthiest person on earth.

Key Background The couple were considered by many to be a strange match, with Musk being a billionaire CEO and Grimes referring to herself as an “anti-imperialist,” a phrase she removed from her Twitter bio after the two began dating. Musk and Grimes’ relationship has provoked ire from some Grimes fans, who criticized her after she defended Musk and Tesla after the company was accused of firing employees who attempted to unionize. The two welcomed their son in May 2020.
