Getty Images for Netflix Key Facts A deal securing Warhammer’s intellectual property includes rights to a “universe of Warhammer programming across multiple Amazon entertainment businesses” that will feature Cavill, according to a release.
The announcement indicates Cavill, who previously stated he wanted to play a part in a possible Warhammer production, had partnered with Vertigo Entertainment in securing rights to the tabletop franchise.
Cavill announced in October he would not return for the fourth season of Netflix’s The Witcher and would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, sparking rumors he had left the production to work on other projects.
Crucial Quote Cavill noted he has “loved Warhammer since I was a boy” and that the prospect of creating a Warhammer cinematic universe is a “lifelong dream come true.”

Key Background Warhammer 40,000, a tabletop, miniature wargame created in 1983, features various figurines and factions and has since expanded into additional miniatures, tabletop games, novels and video games. The franchise is set in the far future in which human civilization is in constant conflict with hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. Cavill has shown a continued interest in the franchise after posting an image of him painting a Warhammer figurine to Instagram in 2020.
